Everyday Lovelies: So Many Papers, So Little Sleep.

Aside from a lovely trip to the ER, I have been working on papers just about this entire week. I had around four massive papers and I have completed about two of them. I went to the emergency room for just some unexplained pain in my ribs/stomach area and the doctors prescribed me to lay off caffeine for a while. (Could caffeine restriction come at a worse time?)

Today the temperature reached into the nineties which, after a few weeks of cold, wet weather, is a welcome reprieve.

I got to make a new friend last night over skype(he is a friend of a friend) and we talked about all of our nerdy loves. It was great, plus he kept me awake since I could not have caffeine while I did my paper.

<3 Hot ER Doctors <3 Watching Charlie’s Angels With Chelsea <3 Bright Sunny Days After Cold, Rainy Days <3 Powdered Coffee Creamer <3 Ranch Dressing (I am sure that Chelsea Leigh would agree with me on that one) <3 Playing On A Playground <3 Stocking Up On Easter Candy <3 Talking To A New Friend <3 Almost Winning Our Basketball Game <3 Getting Costumes For The Play At A Thrift Store (so that I don’t have to make them) <3 Talking About Tractors With Sterling (a very long inappropriate story) <3 Chocolate Covered Peeps <3 Barbecue Chicken Pizza <3 My English Professor’s Humor <3 Skype Chats That Go Into The Wee Hours Of The Morning <3 Sleep (its been very rare thing for me lately) <3 Walking Barefoot In Nice Weather <3Chelsea Drawing hearts In My Notebook <3 Chelsea Leigh Being Silly While I Work On This Blog Post <3

Daily Outfit: Feels Like Summer

Last week, I said that it was cold and rainy which made my my joints hurt (man, I sound old). The weather changed over the weekend so it is now up into the 80 degree weather. I did not really feel like dressing up very much plus I have so many papers due this week.

Even though I am super booked, I cannot convey how excited I am for this weekend. I get to volunteer at a homeless shelter, see an old friend who I have not seen in a long time, and see my dad all in one day!!!! Anyway, on the the outfit.

I, also, did a photo shoot with the lovely Miss Chelsea Leigh and her peeps.

WWW @ Nixon Library

On Saturday, I went to the Nixon Library for an Avodah for my class. The museum was pretty interesting because I got to learn more about Nixon. Usually, everyone focuses on Watergate but the excibite was closed for renovation so it was a unique experiance.

I am such a rule-breaker. :P

The leader of the free world and the King.

There was a bunch of campaign buttons at the museum.

Even the first lady had First Lady Swag.

"Everyone for Elephants!"

These were in the Space Travel Exhibit. These were the most delicious looking things out of all of the food in the cases. Ugh!

Me and Winston Churchill. His statue was so very British with his bowler hat, cane, and cigar.

We barely survived the museum... just kidding.

I absolutely loved this picture!

You can also check my facebook for all of the pictures that I took throughout the day. :)

Lifestyle Forecast:

Sunday, March 27:
"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
Ephesians 2:10

Monday, March 28:
“I do not love a man who is zealous for nothing”
Oliver Goldsmith

Tuesday, March 29:
Real Simple suggested this three ingredient snack, Goat Cheese Empanadas, on there website and one of their summer issues.

Directions

  1. Using a 3-inch round cookie cutter, cut out 16 circles from 2 refrigerated rolled piecrusts. Divide 4 ouncesfresh goat cheese among the circles. Lightly dot the edges of the dough with water, fold in half, and press with a fork to seal.
  2. Bake on a rimmed baking sheet at 375º F until golden, 20 to 25 minutes. Serve with 1 cup store-bought corn salsa.
Wednesday, March 30:
The 70's are in full swing on the fashion trends list so its time to break out the flare pants, platform boots, and floppy hats. I am actually really excited for this look because I have been meaning to dress in hippie fashion for a while now but have not had the chance.

Thursday, March 31:
To help keep things organized, color code important things like different subjects in school or files at work. The brain will react more, I think, to the color of different objects rather forgetting what is in what folder and having to search through them all to find something.

Friday, April 1:
Look for museums that interest you in your area and go. If you are in the southern California area, I could recommend some. Museums can be really informative and interesting. Remember to dress for lots of walking and possibly chilly exhibition rooms.

Saturday, April 2:
Go through you inbox and delete all of those e-mails that are just taking up space. I usually have hundreds of e-mails on one of my e-mail accounts from Facebook that I just ignore. Most of the e-mails in my inbox are junk and spam e-mails anyway.

Writing Sample: E-mail

While looking for something in my computer to put as a sample for today, I found this copy of an e-mail that I had received many years ago. I did not write it but I thought that my lovely readers might enjoy it.
9 Things I Hate About Everyone

1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time..... I know where my watch is pal, where the heck is yours? Do I point at my pants when I ask where the toilet is?

2 People who are willing to get off their butt to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually.

3 When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". dang right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?

4 When people say "it's always the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the heck would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they?

5 When people say while watching a film "did you see that?". No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the floor.

6 People who ask "Can I ask you a question?".... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?

7. When something is 'new and improved!'. Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new..

8 When people say "life is short". What the heck?? Life is the longest darn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

9 When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?". If the bus came would I be standing here?

My Week In Pictures: The Most Awesome McDonald's

Saturday, I went on a field trip with my Philosophy of Beauty and the Imagination class to the Getty Museum. The museum amazes me every time that I go because of the amazing architecture and landscaping. The whole place feels like it is a whole other world in the future. The buildings have a grid pattern on them but they are rounded buildings which contradicts the straight lines.

Dr. Strauss asked us to pick one painting and stand in front of it for almost an hour to really look at it. We had a paper that had questions that we had to answer about the painting and, while an hour seems like a long time, when our time was up, I wanted more time. I choose Mischief and repose by John Godward (you can click on the image to read the plaque that was next to it).

My painting. The painting was incredibly detailed and very well done. The more I analyzed it, the more I feel in love with it. Although, this kid came up and tried to show off to his grandfather by talking about the overall question that is in the painting. He said that it was what they girl in green was doing to the girl in blue which did not bother me but he went and touched the painting. I almost died!!!!!

Chelsea Leigh and I had coffee at chapel the other day which brightened our day.

I also got to start in our basketball game this week because I showed up to practice on time (who would have thunk that that would help? :P ) I liked this picture because it looked like the guys were hopping like gazelles or something along those lines.

We got 35 points which was pretty good considering that we were all pretty out of shape.

We also went to get a snack after the game at the most awesome McDonald's ever!!! It had vintage toys, and cool signs, and world war II looking posters promoting soda. I wish that I could go there all the time but then I would be fat. (Can you tell how much I liked it???)

Part of the team.

Our fearless leader, in other words, coach Chelsea Leigh.

I was a little excited by all the toys... I will admit that I look rather creepy in this picture.

Today was rather boring because I had to work on a paper for most of the day and drama lines fro the rest. Chelsea, Danielle, and I decided to watch Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. We had a very enjoyable time except when Netflix would not buffer.

with love and another paper to write,

Everyday Lovelies: Starbucks Rebranding

This week has been rather painful for me because we have had drastic weather changes. I have broken three of my fingers and one of my arms in the past so when the weather changes, my hands and arms hurt. However, it made for the winter coats to finally come out like the one in my outfit post yesterday. Stress will soon take over my world as the play is coming up as well as many papers that are due in the next few weeks. I should just be a hermit for the next two weeks.

My work space.

My philosophy teacher, Dr. Gideon Strauss, took my class to the Getty Museum last Saturday. Talking with one of the educators there was an awesome opportunity to learn about the art that I was seeing. I love art and museums so the whole day was amazing.

I have been obsessed with taking pictures of the re-branding process that Starbucks has been initiating. Here are some of my pictures.

I just found out that I get to do a presentation on Environmental Ethics for my Introduction to Critical Thinking class!!!! I have been very actively studying the environment and how I can take care of it in relation to my Christian faith. I am stoked!

Daily Outfit: Vintage Coat

Last week, my mother drove me and my sister to a thrift store called "Out of the Closet." While my mother and sister browsed through the racks of clothes, I went straight for the jacket and dress section. I am obsessed with dresses lately and I wanted to find more for cheap. Unfortunately, I did not find any dresses but I found an awesome vintage coat. It has choir robe sleeves which I am not much of a fan because they are short but the rest of the jacket makes up for it. The body of the coat is like a flowy dress and it has large clear buttons.

I have been dying to wear it and as it got colder today, I decided to change into it because I have been dying to wear it.

I was also asked by my friend Danielle to take pictures of her for the yearbook so we had a photoshoot accompanied by the lovely Chelsea Leigh.

A long view of my new coat even though you cannot see how puffy it is from this picture. I also forgot to mention the awesome round collar.

And it has pockets!!!!

We moved around quite a bit from the swings to a stone bench to finally a truck that was covered with awesome graffiti. I wore the gold shoes because the jacket has little flecks of gold in it.

Rocking out with the graffiti (that we did not do).

I loved how the editing changed this photo. Its almost black and white but the color of the truck's side peeks through.

<3 All of us girls! <3

My gold shoes!

This photo shows off the poofy parts of this coat.

I absolutely loved taking pictures by this truck and you will see me in later photo shoots here... unless the truck leaves.

Lifestyle Forecast: Suggested by Chelsea Leigh

Sunday, March 20:
“And we know that for those that love God and those that are called according to his purpose and believe in his name, all things work together for good.”
Romans 8:28

Monday, March 21:
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Edmund Burke

Tuesday, March 22:
Try adult dunkeroos as suggested by a friend of a friend. Buy a container of your favorite frosting (best with funfetti) and animal crackers. Dip said crackers in said frosting.

Wednesday, March 23:
It tis raining here in California so try being smart and wear rain boots. If not in rainy weather, wear them anyways. They are fun and cute!

Thursday, March 24:
Make a schedule for important events or assignments that are coming up. Take a cue from fellow blogger, Chelsea Leigh and make a daily schedule to keep your life organized.

Friday, March 25:
Go to a concert. Many people on campus lately have been going to concerts, why not follow a trend. :P

Saturday, March 26:
Do laundry. It is helpful and if you don’t know how, it is an important life skill to learn (especially in college when you do not have your mother there to do your laundry and fold your clothes).

Writing Sample:The Theatre

This is a poem that I wrote for my Introduction to Literature class where we had to write a (at least) 25 line poem. The subject of my poem is a rundown theatre down the street from my school. My English professor likes to use odd examples so I tried to do that like the references to Inception and the actual statistic of winning the lottery.

Enjoy!

The Theatre
On Washington street just past Lee’s Furniture,
There lies an abandoned theatre.
The paint has been chipping away
And the sign no longer says what is playing.

In my head, I think about fixing it.
Could it return to its former glory?
I think clearing the trash from the inside,
And a new coat of paint would help.

The black gate bars anyone’s entrance,
Though the trash and spare bits of clothing
Point to not only people’s access
But blatant disregard for this urban wonder.

When I close my eyes,
I can see cars driving up.
The show would be starting soon
And the patrons are trying to find their seats.

It does not look like a theatre where movies would play,
But rather a theatre where a band would get a gig
Or a small town production  would be shown.
The theatre is too quaint to play a movie like Inception.

Sadly, the building is permanently closed.
It is a wonderful piece of urban decay but nothing more.
Should I win the lottery, it will be my first investment,
Though the odds of me winning the lottery is 120 million to 1.

It could happen.

Brittany Sims

My Week In Pictures: Back to School

This week was our first week back after spring break which is weird for most of us because we are hearing that just about everyone is on Spring Break this week. However, I got to see Chelsea, Danielle, Josh, and everyone else from Providence Christian College once again. It is truly my second family.

Providence moved campuses this year and a long standing tradition at the old campus was playing Sand Volleyball. It was missed so much that over spring break, the school was able to build a sand volleyball court. We commemorated it on Wednesday. Playing sand volleyball was a great stress reliever for the PCC students at the old campus though a friend got hurt playing and subsequiently could not play in our Basketball game that night. :(

We were all pretty excited about the Volleyball court!

Josh, who is our mascot, in full costume as a Seabeggar. It is a very long story to explain why we are the seabeggars and I will explain if asked in the comments below. Yes, Josh is wearing a kilt (not a skirt).

Chelsea and I went to Penny For Your Thoughts and had peeps. They do not sell them there but we had them with our drinks. I try and get something new every time. I ordered a Green Tea Frappé because the nice lady that owns it recommended it. It was good but I am not a huge Green Tea fan so I think that will order something else next time.

Chelsea bit off the sides of her peep. We had a whole discussion on how we both eat peeps, figuring out that we both eat them the same way. Ears (one at a time), then the head, then leave the cute, little butt for last!

I went to Forever 21 with my Mom where I got a pair of shoes and a cute, colorful dress.

I took my mother and sister to Little Tokyo since I frequent there. I saw this cute little pigeon that I want to take a funny picture of it waiting for the Metro but a little kid scared it away. I got this picture just before the kid scared it.

My sister, Bree, and my mother. AWW!

We ate at a sushi restaurant that was really good and I got Mochi afterwards.

My mother and sister stayed for a few days and on their last day, my mother took my sister and I to The Cheesecake Factory. Cheesecake Factory is one of my favorite restaurants because of the great atmosphere and the food is delicious. I am not a huge fan of their cheesecake but that is because the texture of all cheesecake bothers me. I am sure that if I liked cheesecake, I would love theirs.

I had Chicken Enchiladas with rice and black beans. It was very delicious and I took home leftovers. One of my other favorite things about Cheesecake Factory is that they serve dark bread (I think it is pumpernickel pread but I am not sure. I just know that I love it A LOT!).

I am going to be working on catching up on homework and writing some blog posts ahead of time. Will hopefully post a good writing section tomorrow but if I don't finish, I will post the poem that I wrote for my Intro to Lit class about a run down theatre down the street.
